Vertical Flammability Tester (Model:SFT F4-4030)
Application
The VFC VerticalFlammability Tester is used to determine theflame resistance, glow propagation and charring of fabrics, children'ssleepwear, cellular foam, paper and other material.
The SFT F4-4030 Vertical Flammability Tester enclosure is a stainlesssteel cabinet with a large window for test monitoring. Various specimen holderand burner packages are designed to meet the testing requirements of specifictest methods. A separate gas control module, either Manual or Automatic, islocated away from the flame chamber for operator convenience. For Children'sSleepwear tests [16 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 1615 and 1616] thatdo not use a pilot burner, the input gas is connected directly to the burner.
The specimen issuspended vertically in a holder in the center of the flame cabinet. The burnerflame is applied to the bottom edge of the specimen for a specified impingementtime. Some test methods require the operator to measure char length. To do so,the operator inserts a metal hook with a weight into the highest peak of thecharred area and tears the specimen by grasping the corner of the specimen andraising the specimen and weight up from the tabletop surface. Burner andspecimen holders are easily interchanged to perform other test applications.
