Tracking Tester REV2 (Model:SFT F3-3040)
Application
The Tracking Tester is used for thedetermination of comparative tracking indices of solid electrical insulatingmaterials on pieces taken from parts of electrical and electronic equipment andon plaques of material using alternating voltages. In normal use, componentsmade of insulating material may become moist and dirty. If the impurities areelectrically conducting, current will flow between parts of different voltagepotentials creating a track. As a result, small flashovers may occur, whichcause thermal stresses to the surface of the insulating material. The visualresult of thermal decomposition of the insulating material caused by thetracking current is called the track. The interconnecting formation of carbonizedmaterial forms a tracking path, by which a lasting current conductingconnection results. Thereafter the component cannot fulfill its intendedelectrical function in the majority of cases and parts may catch fire. Theresistance of an insulating material to track formation is called the trackingresistance.
